a bit about the subject, Casanova…

Giacomo Casanova, a multifaceted figure, brings vivid life to his monumental work, "The Story of My Life." This memoir is not just a catalog of his erotic exploits, which gained notoriety, but also serves as a captivating gazetteer of Enlightenment-era locales, from decadent Venice to Vienna and Constantinople. Casanova, a keen and personable guide, encounters historical luminaries with wit and intelligence. Despite his brilliance, his susceptibility to sensual delights leads to scrapes, imprisonment, and exile. The memoir, weaving personal and historical threads, explores eighteenth-century culture and offers a compelling portrayal of triumphs and follies. Born in Venice in 1725, Casanova's dramatic life provided timeless inspiration for the canvas.
