Curt Labitzke was born in Queens, New York in 1958. Labitzke’s work is inspired by the balance, harmony and tranquility of renaissance Italian gardens, the 16th century tradition of Ottoman ceramics from Damascus. All prints are made on a variety of archival/acid-free collaged printmaking papers using Charbonnel etching inks creating an active surface reinforcing the object like quality of the image. Hand coloring and collage work is done with entirely acid free materials including watercolor, pencil, sumi ink wash, acrylic paints and medium. Bridging the gap between reference and representation, image and object, Labitzke’s work asks us to contemplate and celebrate the world we see around us.
