ZALIANI // ITALY

This collection of engravings and etchings are designed and created by hand by Italian contemporary master, Agostino Zaliani, born in Pavia, Italy. These unusual compositions are executed in the traditional manner and are the product of a master's unfailing eye for composition, artistic integrity and craft. Rarely exhibited in the United States, Zaliani's etchings and engravings are released in extremely low editions and are pencil signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by Certificates guaranteeing authenticity. Considered one of the most important of Italian engravers, Agostino Zaliani is present in very important private collections in Italy and abroad and has exhibited in major museums and European Biennales.

“Zaliani's hand that collects this sonic herbarium is skillful and discreet; he stops to write every leaf, every stem, the reflection of a light on the edges of the tufts of grasses, and he continues to give presence to the dry twigs and the curtain walls of the rustic cottages animated only by mold, by water veins. It could be objected that this type of designs had justification until a century ago; yet it is precisely in today's context that these moderate figurative meditations make sense, moral and mental dimension, establish landings of necessity, confirming human content…

Zaliani-Group of 2.jpg

The myth of the modern, of the hurried, of the nod and away, ignored for a battle lost on the truth, on that real that is so close to the author's heart as to feel its upset because he knows it, feels it, condemned to neglect and disappearance. Zaliani confessor of old deserted threshing floors, of ditches, of green pastures threatened by cement and asphalt, attentive to the identity of the individual trees as to the trimmings of a precarious beauty, once traditional and now almost archaic, if not exhausted as foreign to the tragic technological presences. Zaliani, touches the figurative and luminous vertebrae of the landscapes, but also the sound ones, for a formal chorus that can continue in the memory, in what we already knew about the places and as we will remember those places once observed in the translation of the engraver.” - Luigi Cavallo
